Psychotherapy takes place in the overlap of two areas of playing, that of the patient and that of the therapist. Psychotherapy has to do with two people playing together. The corollary of this is that where playing is not possible then the work done by the therapist is directed towards bringing the patient from a state of not being able to play into a state of being able to play. -D.W. Meet Helena da Silva
I am an English and French-speaking counseling psychologist with a background in adolescent and adult counseling.
I am also fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
I use an integrative therapeutic approach to meet the specific needs of all my clients, which allows me to tailor therapy and help on an individual basis.
I have a particular interest in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction therapy (MBSR). As well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), existential psychotherapy, and person-centered therapies.
Born in Geneva, I was raised in Mexico and Brazil. My multi-cultural background allows me to appreciate and understand how culture helps shape the way we see ourselves and others – enabling us to have a sense of identity and belonging.
I have a Bachelors in Psychology, and an MA in Counseling (Webster University, GE). I am a registered counselor with the Swiss Association for Counselling (SfGB) and I hold a Droit de Pratique Complémentaire from the canton of Geneva. I also hold an MA in English Literature (University of Geneva), and an International Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (Durham University, UK).
My previous work experience includes positions as a school counselor at the international school Collège du Léman in Versoix, Switzerland, and at Webster University Geneva Student Counseling Service in private practice. I currently work in private practice in Grand-Saconnex, Geneva.
My education and background has prepared me to become an open-minded, reflective, knowledgeable, and balanced practitioner. I am passionate about helping others connect more authentically to themselves, others and their life as a whole.
